TESTING OF POTABLE DRINKING WATER / DOMESTIC WATER ON BOARD SHIPS

MLC A3.2 requires, 'Each Member shall ensure that, ships that fly its flag, carry on board and serve food and drinking water of appropriate quality.

 

MLC B5.1.4 (8) recommends, 'Inspectors provided with proper credentials under the national law should at a minimum be empowered (e) to take or remove, for the purpose of analysis, samples of products, cargo, drinking water, provisions, materials and substances used or handled;'

 

TECHNOPORT USA, carries out testing of Potable Water Samples Analysis from vessels, based on some of the parameters specified by the WHO. Parameters tested for include, Potability, Color, pH, Conductivity, Hardness, Turbidity, Lead, Copper, Cadmium, Iron, Nickel, Zinc, Chromium, Chlorine, Chlorine Dioxide, Escherichia coli, Total Coliform and Total Legionella.

 

Drinking water should be examined / identified for the highest potential risk to avoid further problems. Where water is used for human consumption on board ship, it must be potable. It is essential to ensure clean & healthy water for consumption onboard ship.

 

Laboratory testing of water samples from the ship are carried out in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025.
